The cover story in the March Skerries News is 'Paddy's Day Parade under threat'.
The Skerries St Patrick's day parade was cancelled at the time of going to press but after
Skerries News hit the shops it got the ball rolling and now, as of Tuesday 9th March,
the parade is officially back on again. The main problem was lack of stewards,
lack of insurance and lack of support for the Skerries Chamber of Commerce.
Since the story broke, Loughshinny Motorcycle Club contacted Skerries News and
offered their assistance with the stewards. Mayor Ciarán Byrne also contacted Skerries News
and said he could help with the insurance issue. The motorcycle club and Ciarán Byrne met
with the Skerries Chamber of Commerce and agreed to put the parade on together.
There was a story in the Evening Herald on March 8 about the cancellation
and another story on March 11 about the reinstatement.
The inside story of how the town saved the St Patrick's Day
Parade will be in the April edition of Skerries News.
The full details of the parade have not yet been released but it starts at 3pm
and the line up for the entrants along the South Strand will begin about 2.20pm.
The parade usually lasts an hour, depending on the route and the no. of participants.
Happy St Patrick's Day.
